About the area-
Berea sits at the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, and the beginning of the bluegrass. Lexington, less that an hour north claims to be horse capital of the world. John G Fee, an abolitionist, started Berea College inn 1855 as equal opportunity for black and white, men and women. The town of 15,000 people has grown up around the college. The Arts and Crafts capital of Kentucky, Berea hosts several music and dance events and is home to many traditional crafts people.
There is a long heritage of traditional song and dance in the region. Cecil Sharp was collecting songs and dances in the region when he discovered the KY running set and believed it to be tied to ancient English dance forms. The Berea College Country Dancers, starting in 1938, can claim to be dancing rapper longer than any others in America.
All the venues in Berea are within easy walking distance. There is also adequate parking at each.
